The wildest comeback story in gaming – Hytale. After years of delays, the sandbox RPG from Hypixel Studios finally launched in Early Access on January 13, 2026.

But Hytale’s road was rough. The game was cancelled in June 2025, and the studio was supposed to shut down. Then, in November 2025, the original founders bought Hytale back, restarted development, and promised a real path forward.

What Exactly Is Hytale?

Hytale is a sandbox RPG where you can explore, fight, build, and create your own worlds. It was always pitched as Minecraft-style freedom, but with a bigger adventure story.

The game first blew up in 2018 when the announcement trailer showed biomes, dungeons, monsters, and building. Many players saw it as more than “another block game.” They saw it as a game where creators could do almost anything.

Riot Fundings On Hytale

In April 2020, Riot Games acquired Hypixel Studios to help support Hytale’s development.

But the game kept getting delayed. Years passed, updates slowed down, and fans started to worry. Then in June 2025, the team announced that development was stopping and the studio would wind down.

For many fans, that felt like the end.

The Revival Of Hytale

Then came the twist. In November 2025, the founders announced they had acquired Hytale from Riot Games. Development started again with a rebuilt team.

Soon after that, the team shared new gameplay and confirmed the Early Access date

This simple message was clear, Hytale comeback is real.

Hytale Today: A Huge Early Access Launch

Fast forward to now. Hytale launched in Early Access with hotfixes and updates already rolling out.

According to co-founder Simon Collins-Laflamme, the game hit around 2.8 million players on launch day, and it became the most-watched game on Twitch, passing 420,000 viewers.

That kind of launch is rare and it’s why Hytale is trending again.
